What is the gospel?
The word “gospel” is a word that you are likely already familiar with, and in the Bible, it means good news. The gospel of salvation for today is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, which says, "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
This is what our faith is to be in for salvation. You might wonder, “What does it mean to trust the gospel?” It means that you trust in the finished work of Christ (His death, burial, and resurrection) as the payment for your sins. A key part of this passage is that it says, "how.” And how did Christ die? He shed his blood.
The Bible teaches that God demands a blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins, and Jesus was that blood sacrifice for us on the cross once and for all, covering all past, present, and future sins (Ephesians 1:7). How do you receive that forgiveness? Through faith alone in the finished work of Christ, the blood of Christ to pay for your sins. Overall, it all comes down to whether or not you've trusted the gospel!
